Liquor seized from SGPC officials son
Amritsar, Feb 12 (UNI) The police today seized 47 cases of liquor from the son of a senior Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) official, who is contesting as an independent from the Raja Sansi assembly constituency.
Giving details, Majitha SSP Lok Nath Angra said the cases were seized when these were being transported from Lopoke town. The police arrested Simar, son of SGPC secretary Raghbir Singh, an independent contesting from Raja Sansi, he said and added that he was booked under the Excise Act.
According to police reports, in a major drive to check the distribution of liquor amongst voters, the police has seized around 200 cases of liquor at different places in Amritsar district since last night. Reports said that large quantaties of liquor had also been seized in Hoshiarpur and a number of other districts since last night.
The state government had ordered the closure of liquor vends across Punjab in view of the polling tomorrow.
The vends were shut down yesterday evening after the end of campaign.
