Landslide win for SAD-BJP in Punjab, says Jai Ram

Shimla, Feb 12 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh BJP President Jai Ram Thakur today claimed landslide win for the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab, saying people have decided to bring in a new state government.

''The alliance is likely to win two-thirds majority in the Punjab Assembly elections that are taking place tomorrow,'' he said in a release here.

Mr Thakur said former union minister and party vice president Shanta Kumar, former Himachal chief minister P K Dhumal and several other state leaders had actively campaigned for the alliance in various parts of the state.

People of Himachal will never forget Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's opposition to extension of central industrial package to the state, reluctance to construct Baddi Barotiwala-Chandigarh railway line and handing over of the Shannan hydel project to the state, he said.

He questioned state Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh logic for campaigning for a person who had been opposing interests of the state.

Mr Singh's loss in Punjab would be to Himachal's advantage, the BJP state president added.
