Land should be acquired amicably
Kolkata, Feb 12 (UNI) Nobel Laureate Mohammed Yunus today said land if acquired should be done without hurting anybody.
This comes as a direct contradiction to what he said yesterday, "Farmers will have to part with their lands for setting up industries because this would lead to econmic growth." But the Bangladeshi economist, who reinvented banking for poor with his "Grameen Bank" theory, said, "I was not aware of the problems here and the kind of opposition the land acquiring was facing." "Land if acquired should be done amicably and without hurting anyone," he said.
He also said that farmers were adequately compensated for their losses.
He was reacting to land acquiring at Singur and other part of Bengal to replace agriculture with industry.
