Haryana Agro Industries mulls pilot honey processing plant

Chandigarh, Feb 12 (UNI) The Haryana Agro Industries Corporation (HAIC) is in the process of setting up a pilot honey processing plant with a capacity of 500 kg honey per shift of eight hours at Murthal in Sonipat district.

The corporation has set up a HAIC Agro R&D centre under National Horticulture Mission for development and research activities in Haryana and is encouraging farmers and unemployed youth to adopt bee keeping in the state.

An amount of Rs 54.20 lakh had been sanctioned by the state horticulture development agency for this project, a spokesman of the corporation said here today.

The HAIC supplied 3,880 bee hives and 3,880 bee colonies to 194 bee keepers during the current financial year, he said adding that 679 unemployed youth, farmers, bee keepers, persons belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes and women aspirants were also imparted training free of cost.

The trained bee keepers were supplied with bee colonies and bee hives of good quality on a 50 per cent subsidy by the corporation through its registered breeders.
