DK urges Centre to ensure water share for TN
Tiruchirapalli, Feb 12 (UNI) Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) President K Veeramani today urged the Centre to stand firm in getting the quantum of water due to Tamil Nadu as awarded by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in its final verdict.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at the party's State General Body Meeting held here today.
Talking to newspersons here Mr Veeramani said though the meeting had expressed its dissatisfction over the quantum of water awarded to the State the Tribunal, it had appealed to the Centre to be firm in ensuring the due share for Tamil Nadu from Karnataka.
In another resolution, the meeting underlined the need for the creation of a new Constitution for India, incorporating the required changes in it, keeping in pace with the changing time so as to insulate the Parliament and Legislations from the frequent interferences of the Judiciary.
Stating that the lives of Tamilians in Sri Lanka was now at stake, a resolution had appealed to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to depute a peace-finding-team to Sri Lanka, headed by the State Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to stop the miseries of innocent Tamilians in the Island nation.
The party also felt that there was no need for having the judges without the knowledge of Tamil language in Madras High Court, in the context of the State opting for Tamil as the official language of the Courts.
The meeting had resolved to stage demonstrations in all major cities in the State on February 20, demanding appointment of Judges with the knowledge of Tamil in Madras High Court.
