Cold wave hits normal life in J
Jammu, Feb 12 (UNI) With no let up in downpour since Friday evening, undaunted cold wave continued to make the mercury dip, paralysing normal life in Jammu and Kashmir.
Torrential rains continued to lash the low-lying areas while mountains were receiving fresh snowfall.
Normal life continued to be affected across the state on the fourth consecutive day as intense cold wave conditions forced people to stay indoors.
Power supply was disrupted at many places due to rains, reports said.
''There has been continuous snowfall at many places on the National Highway (NHIA) from the Jawahar tunnel to Srinagar,'' official sources said.
However, the highway was opened for one way traffic after the road at Penthal area was cleared, they added.
World famous Mata Vasihnodevi's cave shrine on the Trikuta Hills of Katra received fresh snowfal, they said.
However, pilgrims were paying their obeisance at the Bhawan normally. ''Yesterday, about 8,200 yatris visited the cave shrine and it is also normal today,'' said Mr Rajnish Gupta, Dy SP Katra.
