Tiruchirapalli, Feb 12 (UNI) Venting dissatisfaction over the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's final award on the water issue, nearly 200 Bharathiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) activists staged a 'bare-chested' agitation in front of the District Collectorate here today.

The protestors, led by State BKS Vice-President K Govinaraj, demanded that the Tamil Nadu government file a review petition before the tribunal, discharge water to 17 irrigation channels in Tiruchirapalli and Karur districts for 11 months and waiver of farm loans availed by farmers from the nationalised banks, among other things.

Earlier, tension prevailed for a few minutes after police denied permission to the protestors to hold the demonstration in front of the collectorate. Angered over the refusal of permission, the demonstrators blocked a town bus, passing through that area.

However, police pacified them, following which the protestors lifted the blockade dispersed peacefully.
