Lucknow, Feb 12 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today said the coming Assembly elections in the state would be a direct fight between the people and the Opposition parties.

''The people on behalf of the Samajwadi Party government will take on directly the united opposition parties, who have joined hands to create a hurdle in the development process,'' he said.

Addressing a rally of the Samajwadi Vishwakarma, Prajapati, Savita, Chaurasia and Bhurji samaj here, Mr Yadav claimed people were very happy in his regime due to the ongoing developmental projects.

''But these political parties, which have ganged up against the state government, want to end the happiness of the people,'' he claimed.

Appealing people to make their election photo identity card so that they can vote, he said only their support to this government will defeat the conspiracy of the Opposition parties.

Though the Chief Minister did not announce any benefits for these communities, he said after winning the elections his government will launch several sops for them.

Narrating in detail about the achievements of his government, Mr Yadav said his government only preferred to adopt policies which were people oriented.

Terming party leader Amar Singh a ''champion of the backwards'', he said though Mr Singh was seen with high-profile people, his concern for the oppressed class was serious.
