A multi-level car parking lot launched in Kolkata

Kolkata, Feb 12 (UNI) As a prescription for the impending parking crunch in the city having the highest vehicle density in the country, the Forum today launched a multi level car parking lot "The Courtyard" here.

Laying the foundation of the parking lot, Kolkata Municipal Corporation(KMC) Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya said, " The Courtyard, designed as a helix slab parking structure, would be connected to Forum through bridges and corridors so that people could park on the level they want to acess.Computerised car parking management system with boom gates and smart cards based on a real time clock would ensure smooth flow of traffic inside with minimum fuss for the visitors. " This Rs 30 crore project is slated to be completed by March, 2008, he informed.

Mr Bhattacharjee said, " There is a shortage of proper car parking facility in the city. With the number of cars increasing everyday, we have to create proper car parking infrastructure. " Streesing on the importance of conserving water, he also requested the private developers to come forward and help the KMC addrees several other issues like waste water recycling and rain water harvest.

The Mayor also said in future he would not sanction any project not having the facility for waste water recycling.
