Suicide car bomber kills 12 near Baghdad
Baghdad, Feb 11: A suicide bomber driving a truck packed with explosives killed at least 12 people today when he attacked a police station north of Baghdad, police said.
Police at the scene said the vehicle blew up after ramming the main gate of the police station in the mainly Sunni town of Dour near Tikrit, 175 km north of Baghdad. They said the blast severely damaged the building.
The dead included policemen and civilians. The death toll could rise as bodies were still being pulled from the rubble, they said.
At least eight people were also wounded.
More than 3,000 Iraqi policemen have been killed in attacks mainly carried out by Sunni insurgents fighting the Shi'ite-led government of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.
