Sonal Mansingh awarded at Una

Una, Feb 11 (UNI) Indian classical dance exponent Sonal Mansingh was today honoured here on the 32nd Annual Function of Himotkarsh Parishad held at the Lala Jagat Narayan Himotkarsh Women's College in Kotla Khurd village.

She was among the eight eminent personalities honoured with the National Integration Award by the Parishad.

The awards were presented by Hind Samachar Group Chairman and Parishad Patron Vijay Chopra, former GOC of the Western Army Command Lt Gen BS Kanwar (Retd) and Himotkarsh Chairman Kanwar Hari Singh.

Students who topped in the various examinations conducted by the three universities in the state during the last academic session were also honoured. Scholarships worth over Rs 80,000 were given to about 300 meritorious and deserving school students. Inmates of the Una Kusth Ashram were given 50 blankets besides a financial assistance of Rs 3,100.

The Parishad gave three sewing machines to the women folk of the hutment dwellers to earn their livelihood. Speaking on the occasion, Parishad President Kanwar Hari Singh said the organisation was running a primary school for the children of migrant labourers at Malahat, women's polytechnic in Una and a Senior Secondary School at Dangoli village besides a women's college at Kotla Khurd. The organisation was also rendering its services in various fields to the district administration.

Former GOC of the Western Army Command Lt Gen HS Kanwar (Retd) Hind Samachar Group Chairman Vijay Chopra and Himotkarsh Patron and former Director General of Income Tax DN Chaudhary also sopke. Other Parishad office bearers present on the occasion included Vinod Lakhanpal, Rana Shamsher Singh, Deep Shikha Kaushal, Thakur Yash Pal Singh, Shanti Devi Sharma and Dr H K Goel.
