Over 68 lakh kids get polio drops
Chennai, Feb 11 (UNI) Over 68 lakh children were administered oral polio vaccine all over Tamil Nadu today as part of the second phase of Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign.
Dr M Senthamilan, Joint Director Public Health (Immunisation),told UNI 40,400 camps with 1.90 lakh paramedical, department staff besides non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were involved in the task.
Besides, 2,000 mobile camps were also involved in this job. The polio drops were administered at the bus terminals, railway stations, airports and other public places, he added.
About 1.60 lakh staff would be pressed into service to undertake door-to-door campaign for two days from tomorrow all over the state to administer polio drops for those left out of the main campaign.
During the first phase of pulse polio campaign on January seven, over 71 lakh children were covered in Tamil Nadu.
In Chennai City alone, about 4.40 lakh children were given polio drops in 1,126 camps and 125 mobile camps, according to official sources.
