Officers slapped fine for failure to provide information
Supaul, Feb 11 (UNI) Supaul has perhaps become the first district in Bihar where officers were fined Rs 3.45 lakhs for not providing information to the people under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Official sources said today that the district Superintendent of Police was among those 14 officers who were fined for their failure to provide information sought under the RTI Act by the people.
Sub-divisional officer, block development officer and circle officers were among those who faced the action.
As per the RTI Act, officers are required to furnish information to the people within 30 days from the date of request for the same, while failure to do so would attract a fine of Rs 250 per day, to be paid by the erring officers.
