UP: Major rail mishap averted in Ballia

Lucknow, Feb 11: A major rail accident was averted in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh with the alertness of the driver of the Sabarmati Express.

The incident occurred between Ballia and Sagarpali railway stations, where unidentified miscreants had placed a telephone pole on the railway track late last night.

Seeing the pole, the driver of the Darbhanga-Ahmedabad Sabarmati Express applied the emergency brakes and prevented a major rail accident, police today said.

The train could only leave for Sabarmati after the telephone pole was removed from the railway line.
