End WTO impasse: Prodi
Bangalore, Feb 11 (UNI) Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi today called for a speedy conclusion of the Doha round of trade talks at the WTO, saying that the impasse has been damaging everyone.
"Not only India, but Europe and the United States need an agreement, the former Europe Union Commission President said, responding to questions from media on his arrival in the city from Chennai.
"The impasse has been damaging all of us," he said.
His comments came close on the heels of US asking India to make tangible offer at the WTO and provide leadership role to the developing nations.
Mr Prodi on a five days visit to India was being accompanied by four Minsters and a large trade delegation.
The premier was non committal when asked of Rome's support to India's bid for a permanant seat at the UN Security Council.
"You know that this is a delicate matterr," he said.
Mr Prodi said that India and Italy always went hand in hand and there would never be any conflicts with New Delhi.
