21 held for opposing statue unveiling

Puducherry, Feb 11 (UNI) As many as 21 volunteers of the committee to oppose the unveiling of Former Minister M A Shanmugham's statue at Marappalam were arrested when they held a demonstration to condemn the unveiling.

They claimed Mr Shanmugham did nothing for the development of Puducherry and it was totally unwarranted to unveil his statue in the union territory which was honouring freedom fighters and other patriots by errecting their statues.

Chief Minister N Rangasamy is scheduled to unveil the statue later tonight.
