Srinagar, Feb 11 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered the suspension of 131 employees of the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC), an official spokesman said today.

He said the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Srinagar, conducted a surprise inspection of the SRTC headquarters here yesterday and found 131 employees absent from duty.

The spokesman said the DC immediately sent a detailed report to Transport Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen who ordered the suspension of the employees.

This is for the first time that such a large number of employees was found absent in the government organisation.

Mr Yaseen had also directed the Drawing and Disbursing Authority of the SRTC to deduct one-day salary of the employees on the pattern of '' no work no pay''.

Most of the absent employees would be attached with other offices of the corporation,'' he said.

The Minister, who is also chairman of the corporation, said the government would not compromise on the careless attitude of any employee and every step to streamline the functioning of the corporation would be taken for making it a profitable and people- friendly agency.
