Pakistan countres drive against fake and sex provoking drugs
Islamabad, Feb 10 (UNI) Pakistani Federal Investigation Agency in a countrywide drive against fake and sex provoking drugs, has recovered 56,000 Viagra tablets and drugs from various cities of the country.
The English-language The News quoted , FIA chief Tariq Pervez as saying that the agency has launched a comprehensive crackdown against the pharmaceutical companies involved in producing spurious life saving drugs.
''The drive will continue till the counterfeit drugs are completely abolished,'' he said.
Meanwhile, FIA sources said that on a tip-off from foreign sources that one Muhammad Zia-ur-Rehman, alias Janzai Aamir was arrested for involvement in marketing spurious drugs and unregistered imported medicines in Pakistan as well as abroad.
With the coordination and assistance of Federal Drug Inspector, three persons were caught red handed in a raid conducted at the parking, of Club Road, in Karachi early this week.
The FIA also seized 56,000 Viagra Tablets of 100mg. The accused allegedly failed to provide justification for possession of the drugs and was formally arrested.
During interrogation the alleged culprits disclosed that they stored huge quantity of fake medicines at various places.
The FIA raided the tip-off places and recovered 56,000 tablets of Viagra, 200,000 tablets of fake Diazepam, Lipitol (20 mg) imported as well as unregistered and 13,000 tablets of unregistered Reduatil (15 mg).
The FIA sources claimed that their investigations revealed that accused Muhammad Zia-ur-Rehman was an active member of international gang dealing in spurious drugs. To cover his illegal activities, the accused used names of two fake companies, not registered with the Federal or Provincial Governments.
Rehman also recently placed an order for Viagra worth 3.5 million Pound Sterling, which he procured from Dubai on cut price and dispatched it to London.
He claimed to pass his consignment through with the help of contacts at London airport.
