YSR's close associate and ex-MLA escapes attempt on life

Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, Feb 9 (UNI) Former Congress MLA and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's associate C K Babu escaped an attempt on his life, even as his gunman and two others were killed when unidentified men opened fire on them this morning.

According to Rayalaseema IG Sambasiva Rao, the fomer MLA was having breakfast when the men opened fire injuring his gunman and a municipal employee.

Mr Rao's gunman immediately responded killing one of the assailants.

The gunman and a municipal employee, who were injured in the incident, were taken to a hospital where they died.

As a precautionary measure, all shops and business establishments were closed and Sec was 144 clamped.

Some of the security personnel who were deployed for Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy's visit to the temple town of Tirupati were shifted to the place of the incident.
