US wants democratic process forward in Bangla

Washington, Feb 9: The United States wants to see elections moveforward in Bangladesh as soon as possible and in an appropriate way inaccordance with the constitution and the rule of law, says StateDepartment Deputy spokesman Tom Casey.

"We want to see Bangladesh's democratic system develop. We want tosee elections take place in an environment that's free and fair anddoes not have any element of intimidation to it. And certainly not onlyin Bangladesh but in any place in the world, we would react verystrongly and very negatively to any efforts by the military or anyoneelse to usurp the rights of the legitimate government," he said whilereplying to a question.

He said any kinds of measures that are implemented are, done infull accordance with the rule of law and in accordance to whatever thenational standards and practices of that country are.
