Rishabdev 'tense but under control'

Jaipur, Feb 9 (UNI) Tension prevailed in the temple town of Rishabdev underUdaipur district after two days of violence by the tribals and consequent police firing resulting in the death of a person and injuries to over half a dozen tribals.

The tribals, protesting against a recent Supreme Court order on the ownership of the Kesariyaji temple attacked the police with arrows and slings and resorted to arson forcing the district administration to put the army on alert.

Over three dozen police personnel including Udaipur SP Dinesh MN were injured in the attack.

SP Dinesh said the police have taken into custody over 40 people in connection with the violence.

Home minister Gulab Chand Kataria said the ''government has established dialouge with the tribals through Tribal development minister Kanakmal Kataria to defuse the tension''. He said the situation there is 'tense but under control'.

Mr Kataria said the ''government has also decided to constitute a cabinet sub committe to study the ownership of the temple in the light of the court order''.
