'Mayawati coop in disproportionate investigations'

New Delhi, Feb 9: The CBI today said its investigations intoformer Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Ms Mayawati's disproportionateassets case was near completion and as the politician was cooperatingsomething would be known ''soon''.

As investigations into the case had some 'flaws' and'shortcomings', it was re-evaluated after which Ms Mayawati presentedher defence, said CBI Director Vijay Shankar talking to mediapersons atan informal gathering today.

''We have included her in our investigations and she has been verycooperative, after she was asked to join the probe.'' Defending theallegations that the matter was being 'dragged with a purpose' becauseof impending UP Assembly elections, the CBI chief said the agency wasnot being used as a political tool and as the investigations were inthe final stages, something would emerge shortly.

On the Taj Corridor case, Mr Shankar said investigations have beencompleted and status report submitted to the Supreme Court in December2004 itself. ''We are committed to carry out the honourable SupremeCourt's directive in letter and spirit.''
