Green Deodars recovered in Kashmir forest

Srinagar, Feb 9 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police has seized green deodars from a forest area in north Kashmir, a police spokesman said.

He said Vilgam Police in the frontier district of Kupwara received information that one Alif-ud-Din with the help of a Forest Guard Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din had cut green Deodar tress and dumped it in a Jungle at Tumina.

He said a Police party headed by Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Bashir Ahmed raided the spot and recovered 116 sleepers and cut pieces.

The Spokesman said a case under FIR NO: 06/2007 U/s 379, 109/RPC and 6 Forest Act has been registered in P/S Vilgam.

A massive hunt has been launched to nab Alif and forest guard, he said.

The cutting of green deodars and other trees has been banned by the Supreme Court and a person found involved in the illegal felling of green trees will have to face punishment under Public Safety Act.

However, despite the stringent laws, hundreds of trees are felling almost daily in the Kashmir forests.
