Fire broke out in IISc's Molecular Laboratory
Bangalore, Feb 9( UNI) Over a dozen research students and scientists in the prestigious Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc) had a providential escape when a major fire broke out at the Molecular Cell Biology Laboratory barely few minutes after they left for the day here last night.
According to IISc sources the fire broke out at about 2130 hours last night which gutted valuable documents and laboratory equipments in the mishap.
The fire was first noticed by the research scholars working in the other adjoining laboratories in the IISc complex and immediately alerted over the incidentto the police . The six fire tenders which rushed to the place fought for over two hours to extinguish the fire while some of the research students helped to salvage some of the laboratory equipment amidst the fire.
The initial investigation revealed that electric short circuit might have caused the fire, the sources added.
