CBI contemplates Red Corner on UP sharp-shooter
Lucknow, Feb 9 (UNI) After failing to nab him for the past 10 yrs, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to issue a Red Corner notice against sharp-shooter Ataur Rehman, alias, Babu.
Carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh, Babu is wanted in two separate cases by CBI, including the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanad Rai.
With the issuance of Red Corner, the agency would seek the assistance of its counterparts in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Dubai. CBI officials have so far refused to go on record about the notice.
While SIC-IV wing of CBI was already searching for him in connection with the case of kidnapping and subsequent killing of UP coal businessman Nand Kishore Rungta since 1997, SCB (II) has declared him and seven others absconding in Rai murder case of 2005.
Sources claimed Babu had led the hit team to kill Rai and his aides on November 29, 2005 in Bhanwarkol area of Ghazipur. Babu could either be in Nepal or Dubai.
