Vehicular movement on Bangalore-Mysore affected for fourth day

Bangalore, Feb 8 (UNI) Vehicular movement on the Bangalore-Mysore State highway was affected for the fourth day today, even as protests against the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's final award continued.

In the State Capital, members of various Kannada organisations, including Vattal Paksha leader Vattal Nagraj, MLA and 50 others were arrested when they tried to lay seize on Raj Bhavan. However, they were released later. Kannada Rakshana Vedike members took out a procession of sheeps with playcard garland on their neck with names of all MPs from the State.

Though widespread protests and demonstrations were reported in Cauvery basin Districts no untoward incident reported from any part of the State.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Mr Shankar Bidari told UNI that while farmers of Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajanagar Districts resorted to road blockade and in Mandya agitating farmers and women folk cooked food on the Highway and did not allow movement of vehcle.

However, the train services between Bangalore and Mysore was normal. The Mysore-Bangalore highway may be opened for vehiculre movement during the night.

Mr Bidari, said that in Mysore about 100 activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike who were agitating against the reported statement of the Information Department Commissioner against some pro-Kannada organisations barged into the Mysore Information Department Office and ransacked it. Over 50 to 60 activists were arrested in this connection, he added.

Earlier in the day over 200 pro-Kannada activists led by Kannada Vatal Paksha legislator Vatal Nagaraj and Dr Rajkumar Fans Association president Sa Ra Govindu came in a procession near Raj Bhavan protesting against the CWDT verdict were arrested and released later.
