Traffic affected as villagers stage roadroko

Puducherry, Feb 8 (UNI) Traffic was badly affected for about four hours on Villuppuram-Puducherry road as villagers of Tiruvandarkoil staged a road blockade today.

The agitating villagers were demanding action against certain persons who allegedly assaulted a group of people today.

It was said that DMK party volunteers had contested the local body elections here in two separate groups and since then there was rivalry between them.

This morning, some members of one group were allegedly assaulted by members of the rival group.

Following the incident, villagers supporting the members, who were assaulted, staged a road blockade demanding action against those who attacked them.

Villagers called off the agitation when senior police officials assured them that the police would take necessary action to arrest the culprits.
