Ranchi, Feb 8 (UNI) Warning against possible division of secular votes in the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the National Congress Party today said electorate in the state were required to see poll results in Bihar before exercising franchise.

''The secular forces must stand united in UP if they wanted to defeat the Mulayam Singh government,'' party's general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Tariq Anwar said at a press conference here.

Mr Anwar said the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar came to power promising development and good governance, but the situation remained same even after a year.

He said the Bihar government sans any secular tinge failed to utilise the funds made for the state.

Referring to poll-bound UP, he said his party would try their best so that people's hopes for a healthy and secular government did not get shattered.

On the assembly elections in Uttranchal, Manipur and Punjab, Mr Anwar said the NCP was in a good position in the first two states while trying to gain ground in Punjab.

In context of by-poll to the Palamu Parliamentary seat in Jharkhand, the NCP leader said the seat originally belonged to the RJD but any decision on the matter would be taken by the state committe of NCP as RJD is a UPA constituent.
