Rangarajan no more

Chennai, Feb 8 (UNI) Mr S Rangarajan, Chairman of Kasturi and Sons, proprietors of The Hindu, died at his residence here this afternoon, following a brief illness.

He was 70. He is survived by his wife Shanta Rangarajan, son Ramesh Rangarajan and two daughters Vijaya Arun and Akila Iyengar.

The funeral will take here tomorrow, a press release from The Hindu said.

A keen sports enthusiast, he was associated with various sports bodies, including Madras Race Club, Hyderabad Race Club and Kennel Club of India.

The second son of Kasturi Srinivasan, former Editor of The Hindu, Mr Rangarajan became Managing Director of Kasturi and Sons in 1991 and was appointed Chairman of the Board in April last year.

He was publisher of the Hindu from 1974 to 2004.
