Offence registered against journalist for harassing wife

Akola, Feb 8 (UNI) The police here has registered offences against six persons, including two city-based journalists, for allegedly subjecting a married woman to physical and mental torture.

The complaint has been lodged by Seema Gawai against her husband, Anil Gawai who is a city-based journalist, his father Tulshiram, mother Sayabai, sister Pranita Padmane and brother-in-law Vijay Padmane. The sixth person, Pravin Take, is also a city-based journalist who is employed with the same newspaper as that of Anil Gawai. However, no arrests have been made in this connection so far.

In her complaint, Seema Gawai, who is a teacher in aprimary school, said her relations with her husband had soured within one month of their marriage last year. She alleged that her husband occasionally beat her and had finally driven her out the home in connivance of the in-laws.

On the role of Pravin Take, she alleged he had tried to extort money from her taking advantage of the situation.
