New Delhi, Feb 8 (UNI) Master Plan 2021 envisages planned development of 1500 unauthorised colonies in the national capital with multi-storeyed complexes coming up within three to five years.

Urban Development Ministry sources said the government was quite confident that the unauthorised colonies would not remain in the same condition in the next three to five years.

Since the government had allowed private builders to take up construction on a plot with a minimum area of 3,000 sq metre, with certain conditions including making provision for construction of flats for weaker sections, they would vie with each other to buy land, offering the people lucrative price for it.

The government foresaw such an activity in view of the total check on further unauthorised colonies and restriction on plotted residential colonies, sources said.

Construction of a township or flatted accommodation on the stipulated 33 per cent of the land so acquired, leaving 66 per cent open space would definitely change the area, sources added.

At the press conference earlier, Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy had described it as ''a win-win position for government, residents of unauthorised colonies and builders.'' He said the government was of the view that market forces should help in the development of the city.
