MP BJP alleges discrimination by Centre
Bhopal, Feb 8 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party's Madhya Pradesh unit today accused the Centre's Congress-led United Progressive Alliance regime of discriminating against this state and demanded that there should be no decrease in the quantum of financial resources doled out to Madhya Pradesh.
An economic proposal, passed at a two-day working committee meeting that concluded here today, alleged that non-Congress-ruled states were being subjected to discrimination.
''Madhya Pradesh's rightful share of funds for power, irrigation, education, health, rural development, roads, industry and other development work, was not provided in time,'' the proposal said.
A demand was made for a package, like the ones given to Congress-ruled states, to combat natural calamities.
''Without imposing fresh taxes, the Madhya Pradesh government enhanced to Rs five lakh the concession on sales tax and earned Rs 10,029 crore revenue as per the 2006-07 budget estimate,'' the proposal claimed.
It was tabled by General Secretary Anil Madhav Dave and seconded by MP Maya Singh.
