Meghalaya delegation to woo investors abroad
Singapore, Feb 8 (UNI) For promoting trade and investments in the state, a Meghalaya delegation led by chief secretary S K Tiwari is on a week-long visit to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok, under India's 'Look East Policy'.
Speaking at a one-day seminar in Singapore, Mr Tiwari sought investors and trades to promote the state's industry, tourism and agro exports.
He highlighted the opportunities for foreign investment in the state's potential of 3,000 megawatt hydro-power, which could be developed in smaller sizes on ten sites in an environmental-friendly manner.
He also sought trade partners to increase exports of ginger, tumeric, cashew nuts as well as a wide range of fruits and vegetables to the Southeast Asian markets.
Meghalaya was the closest source of the world's top grade spices for the Southeast Asian region, Mr Tiwari told about 100 businessmen at the Singapore seminar, organised by the Singapore Business Federation and the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce&Industry yesterday.
The delegation arrived in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week and left Singapore after a two-day visit to Bangkok before returning home this weekend.
