Man gets life term for wife's murder
Kurukshetra, Feb 8 (UNI) A local court sentenced a man to life imprisonment for burning his wife alive at their house in March, 2005.
The District and Sessions court in its verdict yesterday also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Jairam, a resident of Ajrana village in the district, who had sprinkled kerosene oil on her wife and set her afire.
The deceased had made a dying statement before the magistrate which led to registration of a criminal case against Jairam.
The court said the convict would have to undergo additional imprisonment for three months in case he did not pay the fine in time.
In another case, the local court awarded one year sentence along with a fine of Rs 30,000 to a woman, Gaganjeet, of Ludhiana on the charge of drug trafficking. She was caught with 44 kg of poppy husk from near the famous Brahamsarovar in the holy city in May 2004.
