Islamic scholar urges Muslims to solve JK issue
Dubai, Feb 8: An influential Islamic scholar in Qatar has urged Muslims worldwide to help find a solution to the 60-year old Kashmir issue saying it was jeopardising peace and prosperity of the entire region.
Dr Ali Mohayuddin Qaradaghi, head of Jurisprudence Department at the Qatar University, addressing the 'Solidarity Day' function at the Pakistan Embassy called on Muslim countries to muster support and co-operation for an early and honourable solution to issues like Kashmir and Palestine, it was reported yesterday.
''The UN had passed resolutions in favour of the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people. Now, Kashmir is not the issue of Kashmiri people only. It concerns every Muslim and everyone should contribute to this,'' he said.
''It is equally important and in the interest of the people of Pakistan and India to settle the Kashmir issue which is the main obstacle for their progress and prosperity,'' he added.
