Common price for sugarcane sought
Bangalore, Feb 8 (UNI) Cutting across party lines, members of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly today staged a dharna in the well of the House, demanding a common price for sugarcane in the State.
When Mr J C Madhuswamy (JD-U) raised the issue during Zero Hour, several members belonging to the ruling coalition JD(S)-BJP, besides the Opposition Congress, rushed to the well of the House, pressing for fixing a common price.
Mr Madhuswamy highlighted the different prices of sugarcane prevailing in the northern and southern regions of the State. This big variation in price had caused a serious concern among sugarcane growers, particularly in the southern parts of the State, he added.
The members withdrew the dharna after Sugar Minister Ravindranath assured to hold a meeting with farmer leaders tomorrow in this regard.
