Coldwave in HP

Shimla, Feb 8 (UNI) Intense coldwave conditions prevail in Himachal Pradesh with overcast conditions today and snow in the tribal districts and widespread rain in lower areas of the state yesterday.

The minimum temperature in the tribal districts of Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti, Kullu and Chamba had plummeted to between minus 12 and minus 20 from a high of between minus eight and minus 15 degree Celsius being recorded last month.

A day after receiving fresh spell of mild to moderate snowfall yesterday, the sun was shinning brightly in the entire tribal belt of the state today with Kalpa in Kinnuar recording a night temperature of 3.3 degree Celsius.

The minimum temperature in mid and lower hills of the state had dipped by a few degrees today due to thin cloud cover with night temperature at Sundernagar, dropping by almost four points to stand at five degrees.

Bhuntar also reported a fall of over 1.5 degree Celsius in the night temperature, which stood 5.6 degrees today.

Overcast conditions were prevailing over Shimla and other adjoining areas after a bright and a sunny morning today and the met office said the minimum temperature rose to 3.3 degree Celsius as against 2.7 degree Celsius recorded yesterday.

The met office said Shimla had also recorded point four mm of rain till 0830 hrs today.
