Capital punishment commuted to life term

Lucknow, Feb 8 (UNI) The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today commuted a capital punishment awarded to two persons to life sentences.

A bench comprising Justices O P Srivastava and Shivcharan Sharma passed the order on a petition filed by the convicts -- Shiv Prasad and Mithai Lal.

The duo had hacked to death a government employee Sherbahadur in Ambedkar Nagar district over personal enmity on August 19, 2000.

Commuting the capital punishment, the bench observed that the prosecution had failed to establish, who among the duo, had administered the fatal hit to the victim.
