Bangalore, Feb 8 (UNI) The Boeing Company today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Larsen and Toubro Ltd (L&T), India's largest engineering and construction company, for joint exploration of business opportunities in India's defence sector.

The signing of the MoU took place at the ongoing Aero India aerospace show on the outskirts of the city.

L&T Executive Vice-President M V Kotwal, also incharge of the company's heavy engineering division said, ''The MoU with Boeing adds a new, international dimension to our engagements in the strategic sectors of defence and aerospace.'' As a major supplier of critical systems to India's defence sector for over four decades, L&T had worked closely with the defence establishment in developing and putting into production a range of advanced systems. This new agreement would add depth to the firm's capabilities in the aerospace and defence sectors, he said.

Boeing Integrated Defence Systems Vice-President (International Business Development) Mark Sullivan said ''our goal is to identify and build strong partnerships with a number of key Indian companies.

We are very pleased to announce this agreement with L&T, which we see as a positive example of much more to come. We want to match the best of India with the best of Boeing, to the equal long-term benefit of both.'' While offering defence products to India, Boeing's business strategy aimed at transforming product sales into a springboard for private and public industrial partnerships, he said.
