AP Legislative Council elections to be held on March 17 : EC

New Delhi, Feb 8 (UNI) The Election Commission today announced that polls to the 90-member Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Council (APLC) will be held on March 17.

Of these, 31 are to be elected by the MLAs and from the local authorities, eight each from Graduates and the Teachers constituencies and the remaining 12 members are to be nominated by the Governor, according to an EC release issued here.

The election to the APLC is going to be held after a gap of nearly 20 years, the release added.

As per the election schedule, notification for filing the nominations by legislators will be issued on February 28, local authorities, teachers and graduates on February 15.

The last date for nominations for the legislators is March 7 and that of the local authorities, teachers and graduates on February 23. The scrutiny for the MLAs will be done on March 8 and that of the other categories on February 23. The last date for withdrawal in the legislators category is March 10 and that of the other catagories is February 26.

The polls for all the categories will be held on March 17 and the counting of votes will be taken the same day for the MLAs category, March 21 for the local authorities category and March 23 for the teachers and graduates category.

The entire poll process will be over by March 26, the release added.
