Dubai, Feb 7 (UNI) Indian workers of a cleaning company in Kuwait, who claimed they were stuffed in pigeon-hole size rooms without basic amenities, went on strike protesting poor living conditions and low wages.

The workers informed Arab Times that 10 people were forced to live in 3x3 rooms, part of which was being used for cooking.

In another 4x4 room about 20 workers lived, and all of them had a single common bathroom.

The company flouted provisions in the workers' contract, said the workers who had paid about Rs 150,000 for their visas to agents back home on promise of a salary of KD 65 (local currency) per month for eight-hour shifts plus overtime.

However, they were made to work 12 hours every day and got paid just KD 40, they said.

Many workers, who are yet to get their residence visa, are staying illegally for over 9 to 10 months, the report said.

The workers, who are seeking the help of the Indian embassy, said they wished the diplomats aided them as the Philippines embassy is doing in the case of their citizens.
