Umrer toll rises to 2; curfew lifted
Nagpur, Feb 7 (UNI) One person, who was injured in yesterday's police firing during protests against frequent load-shedding in Umrer, about 45 km from here, died today taking the toll to two.
Meanwhile, the indefinite curfew in Umrer, which was clamped after the outbreak of trouble, was lifted today. Police said the curfew was lifted since the situation in the town has returned to normal.
Mahadeo Maniram Padole (26), a resident who was undergoing treatment after receiving bullet injuries in yesterday's police firing, succumbed to his wounds in the early hours today, the police said.
One person was killed and ten others injured when police opened fire to disperse a rampaging mob, protesting long hours of load shedding in Umrer. Later, indefinite curfew was clamped on the area.
Trouble had broken out when people, participating in a ''morcha'' over the issue, went berserk and torched a local police station, the tehsil office, and government and police vehicles.
