Two govt officials arrested for carrying BJD election materials

Puri, Feb 7 (UNI) Two government employees were arrested for allegedly carrying election materials of the ruling Biju Janata Dal in the official vehicle of the Orissa Assembly.

The Chandanpur police have registered a case against Bijay kumar Mishra and Dilip Kumar Samantray after sub-collector Pravakar Sarangee filed a written complaint with police about the detection of party election materials from the government vehicle.

In his report the sub-collector said on receipt of complaints he reached the spot and found the materials inside the vehicle.

Congress activists led by Bishnu Mishra had stopped the vehicle at Chandanpur yesterday and informed the election observer and the police about the government vehicle carrying the BJD election materials violating the model code of conduct.

Soon after the incident, some BJD workers from Puri rushed to the spot and tried to release the vehicle and destroy the election materials but the police intervened in the matter and seized the vehicle.

Interestingly, Mr Samantray has filed a complaint with the police stating that when they stopped near Chandanpur, to relieve themselves, some people forcibly opened the door of the vehicle and stashed the alleged materials.

Local Congress leader Umaballav Rath too filed a complaint against two prominent BJD leaders for allegedly attacking the Congress workers who had intercepted the government vehicle.

The State Election Commissioner (SEC) has asked the District Magistrate to inquire into the incident and file a report.
