Agartala, Feb 7: Four persons were arrested for accepting bribe from job-seekers in Tripura's Education Department.

The Tripura government had taken initiative for distribution of job offers through job forms in the education department. However, four persons, including a head master of a government-aided private school, were arrested in connection with taking bribe in the name of providing jobs in the department.

This is the second such incident reported in the state.

It was first reported in Sonamura sub-division of west district recently when the government decided to complete its task of engaging teachers on various subjects by this March.

The opposition Congress in the state condemned the incident and alleged that the ruling CPI(M) was involved in such malpractices with the unemployed.

The Congress today organised demonstrations and a protest rally throughout the state, demanding resignation of Education Minister Keshab Majumder, party spokesman and MLA Sudip Roy Burman said.

The CPI(M) led ruling front claimed that those involved in the racket belonged to the Congress. However, the opposition launched its own campaign throughout the state against the irregularity, Mr Roy Burman added.

Meanwhile, Mr Majumder said the police will take action against the alleged persons as per the rule and the Left Front government had not committed any irregularity at any time in connection with offering government jobs. He said those involved in the irregularities were in no way connected with either the government or any of its departments.
