Thai troops to join UN peace force in Nepal
Bangkok, Feb 7: The Thailand government has approved a small contingent of Thai military personnel to join the the UN peace-monitoring mission in Nepal for a year.
The Thai Cabinet approved the dispatch of 20 military personnel, including 10 from the medical corps, government spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp said.
The country was willing to send more troops and police officers to join the UN mission in the Himalayan nation if the world body requested, the spokesman said.
Set up in pursuance of UN Security Council's Resolution 1740 passed last month, the United Nations Political Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) will support implementation of the historic November 2006 peace deal between the Nepal government and the Maoists.
