Rs 30 lakh worth ganja seized

Madikeri, Karnataka, Feb 7 (UNI) Ganja plants worth Rs 30 lakh have been found at Meghathalu Makkandur village, near here, and six people hailing from neighbouring Kerala have been arrested in this connection.

Police said the crime came to light during a raid conducted by the Madikeri Rural police, last night. Police and Revenue authorities have completely destroyed the plants, which would have been ready for cutting in two months.

The narcotic plants were grown in a piece of land belonging to a former zilla panchayat member, who had leased it.

Police said some illegal weapons were seized from the accused. A separate case had been registered for illegal tree felling.
