Other PDP leaders too want to surrender security in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 7 (UNI) Despite facing a high degree of threat, the corportors and other prominent leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a partner in the Congress led coalition government in the Jammu and Kashmir, too have decided to surrender their security.

The decision of Corporators of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and other PDP leaders came a day after party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and president Mehbooba Mufti wrote to Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to withdraw their security.

A spokesman of the PDP said here that in an extra-ordinary meeting of the office bearers, PDP Corporators of SMC and prominent members of District Committee Srinagar fully endorsed the decision of the party high command to surrender their personal security.

Mr Azad said in the Legislative Assembly that those politicians who demand gradual reduction of security forces and their replacement with the state police should seek withdrawal of their personal security first.

The spokesman said the leaders, in a joint memorandum addressed to the Party President Mehbooba Mufti, requested that all PDP protected persons have decided to surrender their security as well.

The resolution addressed the need to strengthen the hands of party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti.

They further said that if withdrawing of security cover can facilitate the process of demilitarisation and a peaceful solution to Kashmir issue, then they were ready to surrender our security.
