No more liquor in Manipur during elections

Imphal, Feb 7(UNI) The Manipur Excise department has announced that liquor will not be sold during the election period.

Officials of the department said that no establishments selling or serving liquor to persons, including the categories of persons exempted under the Manipur Liquor Prohibitions Act, 1991, would be permitted to sell or serve liquor to anyone.

The possession, storage and consumption of liquor by individuals, including those belonging to the Scheduled Tribe/Scheduled Caste categories, would be prohibited during the above period. Even the restrictions in the Excise laws on stores and possession of liquor in unlicensed premises shall apply to all such categories of persons accordingly.

The ban also extends to the Military/Para-Military armed Police, Manipur Rifles and other members of armed forces deployed in the state. The ban would be enforced on the date of elections and counting on February 8, 14, 23 and February 27 respectively.
