Nepal Army to take action against senior official

Kathmandu, Feb 7 (UNI) The Nepal army is to take action against a senior army official, who spoke allegedly against the democratic government and mobilisation of army in Terai.

Following the immediate strong reaction from major political parties and the civil society, chief of army staff General Rukmangad Katwal told Parliament that necessary action would be taken against acting Brigadier General Dilip Shumsher Rana.

This was his personal view, Gen Katwal told Parliament after he was summoned by the speaker to clarify the statement of acting Brigadier General.

Directing his subordinates to remain on high alert, acting divisional chief Rana, on Monday, said the NA could be deployed to control the violence that has erupted in the Terai region.

The function, in which the displeasure was expressed, was held in Pokhara was attended by the army officials and representatives of major political parties.

General Katwal said the Nepal Army would function according to the mandate given by the Nepal Government.

Civil society, human rights groups and political parties strognly reacted to the statement of acting Brigadier General saying it as a conspiracy against democracy.
