Mughal Gardens open for general public between Feb 10-Mar 23

New Delhi, Feb 7 (UNI) The Imperial-era Mughal Gardens at President's Estate here opens its doors for the general public for a 42-day 'feasting of the eyes' this year, decked in more than 250 varieties of hybrid roses, Scandanavian tulips and bulbous annuals amidst the Gothic structural ambience.

To be open between 1030-1630 hrs, from February 10 to March 23, the 'Gardens' brings alive Edwin Lutyen's dream spread over 15 acres and enclosing the three-tier 'Rectangular Garden', 'Long Garden' and 'Pearl or Circular Garden'.

''The 'Gardens' shall, however, be closed on March 3 and 4 for 'Holi' besides all Mondays for maintenance purposes,'' said Rashtrapati Bhavan OSD Dr Brahma Singh.

While entry for general public would be restricted till March 18, there onwards 'special invitees' -- like the 'physically challenged' (March 20), 'visually challenged' (March 21), 'Defence and Para-Military personnel' (March 22) and 'farmers' (March 23) -- of the President would be visiting the 'Gardens', said Dr Singh.

''We have also sent invitations to all State governments this year to send their representatives for a peek at the 'Gardens' so as to help them replicate the marvel at their place, and have received a good response.'' This year's speciality being 'roses', the 'Gardens' is creating a niche 'fragrant rosery' section in its Southern part that would house only 'scented' roses giving a distinct feel to the majestic garden which is punctuated by dozens of varities of gladioli, daffodils, lilies, narcissus, hyacinths and irises, Dr Singh added.
